Civil War,
Mississippi
Who knew?
Did you know that Dixie Gypsy gets a hit nearly every week regarding July 4th in Vicksburg, Mississippi?
I thought this little town was only an obscure place of interest to those of us who like our air sticky hot ten months of the year and drink our tea sweet.
But noooooo. It’s of interest to a big wide nation. And the poor suckers who are looking for valid historical information about Vicksburg are landing here, on my blog mainly about food.
As you might recall from our winter trip east to Georgia, Kenny and I stopped at the Vicksburg state welcome center on Interstate 20. If ever you’re on a drive through this town and in a hurry, definitely do this. It’s worth the stop. You get to see a little Civil War history. Besides they’ll give you a cold cup of free Coke. It’s homage to the Vicksburg historical Coke distribution down the Mississippi River.
However, if you have some time to be leisurely about it all, take a real stop at Exit 4B and visit the Vicksburg National Military Park. Kenny and I did on our drive west to our new home in Austin. It’s definitely worth the $8 admission fee per vehicle.

(Like any good Alabama-educated girl, I recently had a debate with a friend regarding states’ rights versus federal governmental rights.) Read more…

Today I cried. Understandably, as a female with the full range of feminine emotions and hormones, crying is not an unusual event for me. However, today’s reason for tears was a first for me.
